My deepest condolences go out to the families at Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown, CT. This senseless, gruesome tragedy makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. I’m sickened and deeply saddened by Friday’s events. I’m mourning with the families. To be honest, I can’t make sense of the situation. I believe we all feel the loss in a very personal way as it reverberates throughout our nation, communities and families.
I’m attaching a link to the American Psychological Association website that a friend of mine, Dr. Heidi Smith Luedtke, a psychologist and writer, shared. I found the link informative as I grappled with how to deal with my own emotions and reactions while also being aware of how to handle any questions or concerns my children might have. http://www.apa.org/helpcenter/aftermath.aspx Perhaps it will help you, too.
I’m praying for all those suffering as we try to come to terms with the chaotic events engulfing Sandy Hook and other communities and families affected by madmen and gun violence in recent weeks and months. Peace be with you, the victims, their families and all the heroes who sacrifice everything to protect the innocent.
