A New Blog Title: The Engaged Family

Now that I have some time under my belt blogging, I finally settled on a title that I think better encompasses my goals for this blog. “The Engaged Family” will continue to address family transition issues and offer ways to more effectively communicate with our children, spouses, and extended family.

Family communication has its complexities, which makes it fascinating to me. As the saying goes, you don’t get to choose your family, but finding ways to get along can help reduce stress and frustration. (Nonetheless, if there’s a dangerous or threatening element in your family, I urge you to get away from that individual, family or no.)

I’m frequently looking for ways to more positively connect and interact with my children, my husband and the rest of my family. I include our friendships as part of our circle of family so from time to time I’ll address friendship issues. We’re not exactly surrounded by family here where I live so I’ve come to rely on my close network of supportive friends, who I’ve come to see as an extension of my family. I feel blessed to have found an amazing circle of women to share my worries and concerns (as moms, don’t we all have those?!), as well as humor and successes. What would I do without you all?! You are my kindred spirits.

So send me your thoughts, comments and questions. Let’s explore family communication issues together and become more engaged with each other in an age when it’s so easy to escape into the distracted busyness of life.
