My Story

Content marketing writer, storyteller, content strategist, communicator, TED Talk fanatic…

Communication and curiosity are at the heart of connection. When we exchange information with each other in an articulate, clear and thoughtful way, we experience a deeper sense of connection, which I believe people today yearn for more than anything else.

Whether I’m writing web copy for a client, interviewing a source for an article, editing a newsletter or helping to craft a presentation, the goal is always the same: to write in a way that will engage the reader or the listener while staying on message.

Encouraging words to play well together in a meaningful way is one of my favorite activities!

Combining my comprehensive background in marketing and media relations with my skills as an author and award-winning parenting and health & wellness journalist, I love helping my clients articulate what they want to say and how they want to say it.

My “Official” Bio

I partner with health and wellness entrepreneurs, coaches and executives to position them as industry thought leaders by creating strategic content plans and compelling marketing collateral. I deliver a variety of writing services ranging from website content, executive bios, articles, newsletters, ebooks, and white papers. With more than 25 years of experience working in whole-person healthcare, non-profit, B2B SaaS and magazine writing, I understand the critical role communication and storytelling play in creating meaningful, engaging content that supports business goals.

In addition to my client work, I’m an award-winning writer, author and speaker. My work has appeared in numerous publications, including KC Parent, Vibrant Life, Pregnancy & Newborn, Parents, and Woman’s Day.

I’m passionate about sharing information that helps people of all backgrounds achieve greater personal well-being, which can have positive ripple effects creating healthier families and stronger communities.

Described by clients as a word-whisperer, I geek out on storytelling techniques and transforming lifeless business word jumbles into irresistible, captivating content that’s easy to understand.

For fun, I enjoy trying out Kansas City’s many restaurants with my family, exploring nature trails with my sweet rescue mutt, going on solo writing retreats and consuming storytelling in all of its forms.

Want to know more? 11 random facts about me

  1. Focus on mind-body connection. From energy healing and tarot to feng shui, therapy and health coaching, I enjoy learning about the many ways we can access healing, not just from a physical perspective, but from an emotional, mental and energetical perspective.

  2. Nationally published writer. For the past 15 years, in addition to working for health and wellness clients on their websites, newsletters, blogs, presentations and marketing materials, I’ve written for dozens of national and regional magazines, including Woman’s Day, Parents, Pregnancy & Newborn, Vibrant Life and KC Parent.

  3. Marketing background. I kicked off my career in PR, marketing and media relations, working in the non-profit, agency and healthcare worlds. If you follow my Substack titled “Word Energy,” I often share content marketing tips, lessons and stories to help you get strategic about your key messaging and content.

  4. Wildlife enthusiast. One of the most unusual jobs I’ve ever had was working in the marketing department in an internationally renowned zoo & aquarium. I love nature and wildlife and admire many of the people doing the hard work to conserve the world’s most threatened species.

  5. Home is… The one question I never really know how to answer is “Where are you from?” I was raised in an Air Force family, and I’ve lived in Europe and across the continental U.S. My extended family is located around the globe, offering no common region to call home. I believe that home is where your family is. Currently, I’m “from” the heart of America, residing in the Kansas City area.

  6. Avid reader. Like many writers, I’m passionate about reading and listening to other people’s stories. Quirky character-driven stories, essays, memoirs, historical fiction and personal development are some of my favorites. Got a recommendation? Don’t hold back! I want to hear it.

  7. Family matters. I’m the proud mom of two talented teenage sons — and a beloved rescue dog because as Nora Ephron once quipped: “When your children are teenagers, it’s important to have a dog so that someone in the house is happy to see you.”

  8. Connection matters. I believe isolation is one of the gravest health threats we currently face, contributing to rampant mental and physical health issues like depression, anxiety and heart disease. To that end, I’ve written numerous articles and two ebooks about how to build stronger connections. I continue to explore relationship-building in all aspects of my work.

  9. Creative writer. I’m writing my first novel. It’s a historical fiction loosely based on a tale my grandmother told me about one of our ancestors who was burned as a witch in the 17th century. Writing a novel is a fascinating and often frustrating experience. But the lessons I’m learning are strengthening my skills across all aspects of my writing life and teaching me even more about what it means to be a woman navigating a culture driven by patriarchal ideals.

  10. Inspirational activities. Yoga and walking in nature are two of my favorite ways to ground myself and channel new ideas. Highly recommend.

  11. Creative energy sources. As an introvert, I’m nourished by deep conversations with good friends and time alone to reflect and create.

connection can occur, learning unfolds, empathy grows and transformation begins.

When we can communicate with each other in an articulate, clear and thoughtful way, we can experience a true sense of connection. Maybe that’s why helping a struggling client reveal their authentic self and clarify the beauty of their business on the page is as rewarding to me as the outcome of fast-paced thriller.

What Drives Me

I believe loneliness and isolation are among the gravest health threats we face. A lack of strong bonds fuel stress, which negatively affects our mental and physical health. Like a vicious cycle, as we neglect our self-care, our relationships also deteriorate. I’ve seen this phenomenon over and over again in my own life and in the lives of the many people I’ve interviewed and connected with over the years.

When people feel seen and heard, they feel validated and this is when healing can begin. When they feel like they belong to a community and enjoy a sense of purpose, they understand that they matter, which further nurtures healthier families and communities.

Like other forms of art, sharing our stories can create a magical sense of connection and community.
