My article “Kids Worried Sick” honored with Parenting Media Association Award

I am proud to announce that the Parenting Media Association (PMA) honored my feature-length article “Kids Worried Sick” with a silver award in the print editorial category at their annual awards convention in St. Pete Beach, Florida in March.

The article originally appeared in the May 2018 issue of Kansas City Parent magazine. Here’s what the PMA had to say regarding the award:

Silver: Kansas City Parent Magazine; “Kids Worried Sick”; Michael Gimotty, Margaret Sarver, Kim Tappan, Christa Melnyk-Hines

“A solidly reported, lucid analysis of anxiety and how it can wreak havoc in children’s lives. Beyond tips for parents to ease their child’s anxiety, the piece strikes powerful notes that are inspirational and empowering by encouraging children to confront their fears.”

Kids Worried Sick: Breaking down the anxiety epidemic facing today’s kids

Anxiety disorder is a growing epidemic among today’s kids. From overwhelming school pressures, social media and family stressors to internal wiring, untreated anxiety can hijack a child’s happiness, self-confidence and interfere with the activities she normally enjoys. The feature-length article explores the underlying causes of anxiety, ways to manage the disorder and ideas for raising more resilient kids in today’s world.
